Sharaa Simsim has been developed as a non profit initiative on the part of Palestinian Government to enhance and induce child welfare. The website is scalable and contains attractive use of flash imagery.
Facts:
Sharaa Simsim is an international initiative of USAID, Sesame workshop, Pen Media and Ministry of Education & Higher Education, Palestinian Government for the purpose of Early childhood development. Sesame Workshop is a non profit educational organization which aims to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children across the world by addressing their critical needs.
CHALLENGE:
To create a comprehensive Early Childhood Website for Palestinian Children, Parents, Caregivers and Service Providers for Early Childhood Development.
The website sharaasimsim.ps to be a source for easy access to:
- Learning materials
- Experiences where parents and caregivers find reliable information on best child rearing practices.
- Children should get a safe and stimulating experience with online games and videos.
- Child care professionals find access to teacher guides, training videos, lesson plans and links to other relevant ECD resources.
- The website should be designed in such a manner so that content updation is easy.
- The technology used should be scalable so that it can grow with future project developments.
SOLUTION:
An Interactive Portal Designed and Developed in Drupal .
Sharaa Simsim has been developed as a completely dynamic website using Drupal 6.20, Content Management System. Since the site is meant for Palestinian people, hence the content is all Arabic, so for that client provided us with the Arabic translations.
Further, technical tools utilized in the making of this website were PHP – 5, Mysql 5, Ajax, jquery, JavaScript and Flash Remoting. We have also included a flip tool in the website which makes it interactive and fun to browse through. This informative website is simple to work with and allows maximum constructive reference for all users who are involved in early childhood development. The site is easily scalable.
